Growing Coffee to Reduce Burning

The employment problem of hill-tribe villagers, which in the past mostly stemmed from a lack of sustainable agricultural knowledge, led to widespread adverse effects on nature including opium poppy seed growing and plot burning causing fires. The UNHCR tackled this issue with a nature-based solution. One example is that of the brand Hillkoff which today is run by its second generation. The main idea behind the business is to grow coffee to reduce burning. The work process interestingly involves planting coffee under large trees, rather than directly under the sun, thus promoting higher quality coffee beans. In addition to creating local income, this endeavor is also environmentally friendly.
